And realised I’ve never actually taken a picture of them next to each other.

Kinja'd!!!

Please ignore the condition of the SIII, it’s ‘in progress’.

They’re still falling off, I just pushed them in for the photo op. I can’t let everyone know the real state of affairs.

You did manage to get the set that were up on The Ebay, though, didn’t you? If not, there’s always the plan B with standard sockets for the screwless lights and a touch of welding.

I managed to get a set of four for £45, the rear six are all fine :) I may be able to recondition the fronts, and if so I’ll just sell the new ones for £20 a pop

As far as I’m aware it was bought by a 4x4 centre down in Kent and took the kiddies up and down tracks and burms (it originally had 11 seats, 8 on rear benches and 3 up front). After that it was sold to the gentleman I bought it from, and he only used to to collect wood on his land. He was the first to register it with the DVLA, so officially I’m the second owner. Technically I’m the fourth.

So what year is it then? My brothers first Landy was a Y and that was thought to pretty much be one of the last of the series III’s (was ex-forest commission, you could still see it written in the faded paint, got it for peanuts as a none-runner, which turned out to be a very easy and free fix but that’s a story for another day!).

‘85, truly the last of the III’s. Defender was ‘86 so it can’t be far away.

Yeah just checked and 83 was the first 110 and then 90s later on (which became the Defender) and 85 the last of the Series III’s. I loved my brothers III cos we could really chuck it about off road and not worry too much about hurting it, his current 09 XS we need to baby too much, god knows how precious he’ll be when his new 110 Landmark arrives!

I’ve checked the Series through whatever I could find, and I’ve not broken anything yet. The Defender I look after a bit better as its my.primary work vehicle, it does some local 4x4 courses and that’s about it.
